[Minor spoilers for Mass Effect 3, but I'll try to obscure as much as possible]
Mass Effect has always been a series that has been rather hit or miss with their morality options. On the positive side, the Renegade choices have some truly dark actions available, including stone cold executions, and decisions that allow you to willfully choose to let dozens or hundreds die for your purposes. On the negative, its binary system does not lend well toward much in the way of options, and their pidgeon holing of actions into the renegade and paragon options do very little to clarify the motivations and actual actions that will result from your input.
In Mass Effect 2, the choices became more about expediency and "by any means necessary," do you destroy the collectors tech since it is crafted using the deaths of thousands, or do you keep them in the hopes of using that tech to fight the Reapers. It worked out as a better version of their morality, especially in context of the suicide mission you're running in league with a rogue human group labelled as terrorists.
In Mass Effect 3, not all your choices are specifically paragon or renegade, sometimes they're simply categorized as neutral, especially in those answers which are not very clear on the results and actions from your choice, which is great for the avoidance of accidental "evil" choices from unclear dialogue options.
More interestingly, the paragon options in 3 have some interesting consequences, one side quest gives you an option to do the renegade action (draw your weapon), ignoring it and doing "the right thing" results in the completion of your mission, but the death of the ally that was assisting you in the mission. It makes you think much harder about doing the "good" actions, since refusal to take the quick route and solve your problems with violence can also result in unintended violent consequences.
Although if there's one thing that has really stood out about the choices, it's this: SHOOTING A GUY WHO WAS A SUSPECTED TRAITOR AND HAS ALREADY DRAWN A WEAPON ON PEOPLE YOU'RE PROTECTING IS NOT F*%^ING RENEGADE, BIOWARE.
